The Fraudies Awards

Recognizing 2008’s Clueless Corporate Scammers

Chronicling a banner year for fraud, highlighted by Bernard Madoff’s alleged $50 billion financial swindle, Oversight Systems presents the Fraudies Awards to recognize the most audacious attempts to appropriate company resources for personal gain.

For every headline grabbing story about multi-billion dollar scams, there are millions of smaller fraudulent transactions that go unnoticed every year. From stupid expense violations to ingenious travel scams, the Fraudies takes a lighthearted look at a serious problem that costs companies millions and ultimately punishes the vast majority of employees who are honest and ethical.

Rather than quantitatively ranking the largest fraud transactions, the Fraudies Selection Committee qualitatively chooses its winners based on the creativity, humor, and farcical nature of their alleged career-limiting schemes. The winners were chosen from a pool of candidates who were detected by Oversight Systems’ continuous controls monitoring technology, which is used by leading companies to prevent corporate fraud and eliminate costly transaction errors.

These real-life scams are presented anonymously to protect the privacy of their employers and each is assumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
